The Chicken Hat Plays are an intensively creative day of theater. On Friday night, everyone comes together and tosses prompts into a Who Hat, a What Hat, and a Where Hat. Eight writers then draw their prompts and a cast makeup, then go home to write up a ten-minute script that incorporates those elements. On Saturday morning, eight directors and a bunch of actors show up, along with the very tired writers. The directors then draw their scripts and their casts out of more hats and the fun begins. The directors and actors rehearse all day, finding whatever props and costumes they can along the way, and at 7 p.m., all eight shows are debuted to an appreciative audience.
It's 8 writers, 8 directors, a whole buch of actors producing 8 brand new plays created in a single 24-hour period.
