Järvelän Pikkupelimannit

Järvelän Pikkupelimannit

09/17/12 — 7 p.m.
Sacred Heart Music Center
$10 in advance; $15 at the door
This group of Finnish fiddlers abbreviated its name to JPP in the late 1980s, but rendering it as "Järvelän Pikkupelimannit" is still more fun. The band is on its 11th tour of the United States, and is celebrating its 30-year anniversary of performing.

In the early 1980s JPP’s music was traditional Finnish, but it has evolved to include other influences from world music and jazz. Keyboardist Timo Alakotila and fiddler Arto Järvelä are especially active in producing the original music and arrangements.

JPP's most recent album is a live recording of its 2011 performance in Duluth, aptly titled Live in Duluth.
