Wreck

Wreck

10/10/12 — 7:30 p.m.
Clyde Iron Works
$5 to $10

Black Label Movement, a Twin Cities-based professional dance theater, performs Carl Flink’s critically acclaimed contemporary dance piece, set inside the last watertight compartment of a recently sunk ore boat resting at the bottom of Lake Superior. Wreck explores the depths of physical and psychological endurance and human fortitude in the face of impending and inevitable destruction.

Flink’s inspiration came from his father Robert Flink’s stories of his time as a Great Lakes ore boat crewman in the late 1950s. The production also includes vintage 1960s 8mm ore-boat footage taken by deceased Great Lakes ore boat captain Harvey C. Almstedt, generously donated to the
production by his granddaughter, passionate ore boat observer and children’s book author Tracy Maurer.

Duluth dance artist Rebecca Katz Harwood will be a guest cast member.

In addition, Wreck features original music created by long-time Black Label Movement collaborator and Minnesota composer Mary Ellen Childs. Her music will be played live by the original five-musician ensemble led by conductor and clarinetist Peter O’Toole.
